The Harpeth River
The Harpeth River winds beautifully though the center of downtown Franklin. A block from The Harpeth Hotel. Considering all it has to offer, no wonder it’s described as the promised land. The river is home to 50 species of fish and 30 species of mussels—several of which are protected under the Endangered Species Act. It connects natural, archeological, and historic sites across Tennessee and even weaves its way into our state’s history books. The Harpeth River played a major role in the battle of Franklin 150 years ago that helped determine the outcome in the western theater of the Civil War. Today, its peaceful waters are a favorite for those who want take a Tennessee road trip by canoe, as well as anglers and outdoor lovers looking to enjoy a beautiful summer day.
